Defending the Faith
06/04/2010 - Jeff DownsOnce in a while I am asked what kind of (general) apologetic material would I recommend. This can be a difficult question since there is not a lot of material that is simple enough to understand, without having some background knowledge.
But the interesting thing about apologetics is that it really is simply thinking God's thoughts after him and putting that into practice in an unbelieving world. It is that simple, but given the fact that we are sinners being sanctified, it is also difficult.
Well, a good friend from North Carolina, Dustin Segers has been sitting down with members of his church, helping them, among other things, see the simplicity of apologetics. Sit down and join Dustin in these videos.
I first met Dustin (face-to-face) a few years ago when he spoke at a conference I put together in 2006. Given the fact that Dustin is a pastor, a shepherd of God's people, I asked him to speak on Protecting and Contending: A Pastoral Perspective.
A few (beginner) books I would recommend for those looking into the subject of apologetics are:
The Battle Belongs to the Lord: The Power of Scripture for Defending the Faith, Scott Oliphint.
Always Ready: Directions for Defending the Faith, Greg Bahnsen.
Presuppositional Apologetics: Stated and Defended, Greg Bahnsen.
Others could be mentioned but those three are sufficient for the purpose.
