Be careful what you preach about! Today I preached from 2 Corinthians 4:1-6, and the need to not “lose heart” but to press on toward our calling in 2014. So what happens when I get home? I discover that Ergun Caner has gone on another Twitter rant, proclaiming his innocence and, of course, including falsehoods and shots at yours truly. Of course, as soon as I began to respond, he had to go floss his cat’s teeth or, something, and he refused to answer any direct questions, but that is the way Ergun Caner rolls. He was earlier promoting his “all those videos of me lying are fake!” conspiracy theory, which, if it were not being believed by many gullible people, would be hilariously funny. I really wonder how we managed to get all those folks at Thomas Road Baptist Church, for example, to fake those videos of Caner preaching and lying about his past? Amazingly well done conspiracy! I posted a picture of me and Shabir Ally in South Africa and asked him about how he could quote Shabir when he had never met him before (and had once claimed he was dead). Stone Cold Steve Silence, as normal.
But in the midst of this one of Caner’s worst sycophants, Pastor Timothy Rogers of Ebenezer Baptist Church, decided to derail any inquiry into Caner’s statements by attacking me in the most vicious fashion. Many watching commented on how they were shocked at how hateful and despicable Rogers was in his vicious attacks. Of course, I have seen this many times before. When you have no argument, throw a grenade. It is the way of the dishonest. But it was still pitiful to see a man who calls himself a pastor utterly ignoring biblical mandates such as 1 Timothy 5:19, not even attempting to explain his actions in light of the inspired Word. Truly a shameful display on his part, as the undying record of Twitter demonstrates.
Returning to Caner himself, his display of arrogant dismissal coupled with self-delusional boasting should be sufficient to demonstrate his deep need of counsel and assistance, but for his small cadre of adoring followers, it is all the more reason to proclaim him a great warrior! And we wonder how cults get started?
